Logista has been a member of BKR International, a leading international association of independent accounting and business advisory firms, for more than 20 years. The main benefit of being associated with such an organisation is having access to a network of professionals in many countries around the world, allowing a more professional, international service offering to our clients. During June, I had the privilege of attended the joint Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (APAC) regional meeting in Athens. This was the first face-to-face meeting since COVID-19 and members from more than 20 countries across the regions were in attendance. Athens is an ancient city that over centuries faced many challenges. It was therefore a fitting backdrop to having the first post COVID-19 members meeting. The hosts had several speakers lined up which included sessions on the increased focus on social and environmental responsibility facing companies today, creating a culture of quality with the implementation of the new ISQM 1 audit quality standards later this year, and sharing and debating of the latest trends and general professional practice benchmarks. The highlight for all attendees, however, was undoubtedly being able to catch up with old BKR contacts and building relationships with new ones. It was comforting to hear that firms around the world are facing similar challenges in the profession and valuable information was shared on how challenges are overcome. The regional meeting did not just consist of business meetings. The Greek hosts ensured that we also experience Athens’ wonderful historic sites, highlights being the Acropolis, the Panathenaic Stadium (first modern Olympic Stadium) and having the BKR Gala dinner in the Zappeion Hall.

We were also treated to some of the best local Greek cuisine in the city. Local tavernas serve all the well-known favourites like souvlaki chicken, moussaka, and gyro lamb meatballs. The original Greek salad and tzatziki sauce served with all the above! It was refreshing to be able to be travelling internationally again and to visit Greece was most definitely a highlight!
